Mayday is proposing an alternative that could please critics on all sides of the table. Their idea is to let advertisers engage New Yorkers in an urban game, where each rider holds a key to unlocking a larger image with some embedded value. Think of it as a giant puzzle, where every MetroCard is a unique puzzle piece.

Sure, I’m a sucker for the ‘Bissell Kitty Halftime Show’.  Here’s the money line: “It began as a joke in a network ideas meeting, like some stoner intern’s dream: Dude, what if we, like, just put a camera on a bunch of puppies playing in a field?”  Eight years later, it’s a branding doggynaught.

Pop Chart Lab, one of our favorite creators of infographics, has done it again: a poster which every gamer should get RIGHT THIS SECOND. Having already tracked everything from wrestler names to beer, they’ve created what is surely the definite history of the video game controller, all presented in a superb family tree showing when everything was made, what it came from, and what it begat.
